Neuromuscular Disease Unit / ALS Clinic St. Gallen

The ALS Clinic in St.Gallen has become the major referral center for ALS patients in Switzerland, offering multidisciplinary patient care as well as engaging in ALS research. Currently, 200 patients from all over Switzerland are being taken care of. Patients are seen on a regular basis usually every three months. We have developed extensive collaborations with the departments of pulmonology, gastroenterology, ENT, and palliative care. Research activities cover a broad spectrum reaching from quality of life research to genetic research. Extensive research collaborations exits with other European and US ALS centres. Besides ALS we are also engaged in diagnosing and treating other neuromuscular disorders such as neuropathies, myopathies, myasthenia gravis and peripheral nerve lesion. Clinical neurophysiology is a corner stone in our routine clinical practice and also in some research projects.
